Multi-instrumentalist, Composer, Performer

thomas michael musician

I am a multi-instrumentalist specializing in keyboards, drums, and electric bass, with a foundation rooted in both rhythmic and harmonic disciplines. My early musical development included formal study in piano and percussion through private instruction, which shaped my approach to groove, timing, and ensemble awareness.

I attended music school for performance and composition, where I developed a broad stylistic vocabulary and practical musicianship. Over the years, I’ve performed in a wide range of settings and explored diverse musical traditions, including jazz and fusion, Latin music, Celtic styles, blues, and influences from Middle Eastern, Indian music and modern electronic/new age-styles. These experiences continue to inform my improvisational language, compositional voice, and adaptability as a working musician.

In addition to performing and composing, I am an experienced music educator. I have taught piano, drums, and rhythm-based concepts to students of varying ages and skill levels, with an emphasis on fundamentals, musicality, and stylistic awareness. My teaching approach balances technique, theory, and creativity, helping students develop strong musical foundations while cultivating confidence and enjoyment in their playing.

Below is a recent original composition, “My Salsa Jam,” inspired by Latin music and focused on groove-driven ensemble writing.
